about

Thundering hoof beats echo through the dark moonlit night. A velvety soft muzzle brushes gently upon my cheek - Moonwind!

In loving memory of my gentle Appaloosa mare, Moonwind. I present to you; 'Moonwind Glass Arts'.

Moonwind Glass Arts specializes in decorating glass, glassware, mirrors, plates, and tiles. Transforming them into objects d'art.

Methods Used

Acid etching, sandblasting, and drill techniques are used to create beautiful glass designs. Here at Moonwind Glass Arts, the drill method is the preferred technique. Acid etching and sandblasting are occasionally used for special effects.

The drill method involves the use of a rotary tool and various stone, carbide, and diamond burs. This method can create everything from a light etching to a deep engraving/craving. The depth of the engraving is determined by the thickness of the glass. The first four photos below illustrate the drill method. The butterfly is a drill engraving with color added. The last photo is a hand painted tile.

Finishing

The finished engraving can be enhanced with glass paints, inks, and/or colored waxes. Glass paints, after firing in an oven, are the most durable.  Below are some examples of various finishing methods.
